Storm drains and sanitary sewers have different jobs.
Fremont’s official explanation distinguishes its untreated storm-drain system from sanitary wastewater handled by Union Sanitary District. Livermore specifically includes mobile car detailers in guidance that keeps business wash water out of gutters and storm drains. Those examples show why the disposal plan belongs in the appointment discussion.
Before a mobile job, identify the actual working area, the direction water would travel, the means of containment and the approved disposal route. Permission to use a parking space is a separate question from wastewater authorization.

Residential advice is not a commercial permission slip.
San Leandro describes individual residential car washing as conditionally allowed using best management practices. That statement does not establish that a paid mobile business can use the same arrangement at every property. Ask the relevant local authority about the activity and address when requirements are unclear.
The Alameda Countywide Clean Water Program’s mobile-business guidance emphasizes planning and containing wastewater rather than sending it into streets and storm drains. Disposal to a sanitary connection still needs appropriate permission and conditions. Do not empty an extractor or a wash bucket into an unidentified drain.

Read water-hardness data without inventing a citywide number.
EBMUD publishes samples by treatment plant, with a date beside each measure. The following October 6, 2026 hardness observations were visible when reviewed. They show why a location and sample date matter. They are not guaranteed values at a particular home, and a plant sharing a city name does not make the row a citywide result.
On small screens, scroll the table to read every column.
| Treatment plant | Hardness, mg/L | Interpretation limit |
|---|---|---|
| Lafayette | 16 | Plant sample; not an address guarantee. |
| Orinda | 18 | Plant sample; not a current tap measurement. |
| Sobrante | 64 | Do not assign this value to a whole city. |
| Walnut Creek | 16 | Plant name does not establish all city water. |

A visible water mark needs an assessment, not a guessed chemical.
A mark on paint, glass or interior fabric is not diagnosed by a city’s drinking-water table. Identify the actual surface and what happened, then use the vehicle maker’s instructions or ask a professional to assess it. A water-quality number is not a reason to apply an acid or abrasive product.
For practical planning, ask how the provider controls the wash and drying process, whether the work location is suitable and which result the proposed service is intended to achieve. Keep a separate question for any specialized water-spot treatment and approve it before it is added.
Put the location plan in the booking.
In Detailr, use messages to confirm access, permission and the mobile work arrangement. A business can connect the approved location, selected services, add-ons and duration to its schedule. Keep the information specific enough that the person arriving to do the work understands the same plan as the customer.

Public menus and original care guidance were reviewed October 31, 2026. Menu examples are selective observations, not city averages or live quotes. Check the original provider’s current terms and the vehicle maker’s material instructions.
